Yet somehow British settlers in America were able to set property lines and even national (state) boundaries with ease. George Washington himself spent a large part of his life working as a surveyor. We were even able to handle Spanish land grants and the peculiarities of whatever Napoleonic code system we gained through the Louisiana purchase.
