I’ve read some more experimental or avant garde work with an audience and I know how trying it can be, blank stares- I’ve thus unconsciously tended to favor more lyrical or standard fare, rational even.
I was studying a lot of Russian constructivist art and the Suprematism and Futurism that came out of it- well really, I was moving from Rauschenberg to Warhol and working back to that through the influence of Russian iconography on Warhol- and it broke down my poetics and rebuilt them. I became obsessed with word form and sound and relationship over meaning, as plastic elements.
Eventually I completely gave up poetry, moved to film, sculpture then video, then to making music which led back to poetry but back in logical even narrative structure.
I don’t even know if I can make my way back to that space, but you’ve totally helped me to remember how I got there.
I could get lost in these. In the best way possible. It is so potent; filled with loaded language. Looking forward to more.
I added you as a writer to my publications if you ever want to submit anything feel free. I’m trying to get back to my roots in poetry, I studied with David Shapiro, but so far… nothin’ in that place. Focusing on storytelling lately. So, if you feel the need to express yourself in that form I’d love to host it, but don’t want you to take it the wrong way that I added you.
