Project 365: Day 96 — Losing your job
A sister company of the company I used to work for told all its employees that it was the last month it was paying them. It’s the 11th of the month today, the 31st is just 20 days away. 20 days to look for a job! My current job was one I looked and settled for over a period of 2–3 months. How does the management expect them to look for another place of employment in 20 days?
Worse, the people in senior positions, people with families will be forced to settle for half-pay since the news has hit the papers. It’s a relatively small industry and everyone knows everyone. These people will literally be begging for a job that pays because they will be without one soon enough.
It makes me wonder how we are fortunate enough to have gotten off when the boat was still steady. The tanking of this company and of some of its siblings is thanks to a series of bad management decisions. Now everyone from big fish to small fry will have to face the consequences. Made me realise, companies that don’t take stock of their employees’ sentiment never get free. Some day, the people that are responsible for this state of affairs will get their due.
That’s all for tonight!
