The journey to 1:45 — Training recap, Week 8
Last week was such as weirdo. EU Referen-doom aside, I somehow managed to do my lower back in last Sunday, carrying home a heavy bag of laundry — I had loads, thanks to #gymlife — so it meant I couldn’t even think about kicking off my 16-week training plan for Royal Parks. I didn’t go to Gymbox either, and that actually left me with an empty feeling inside my heart. I love that place. But I did do a couple of workouts elsewhere, which were… interesting?
The active minutes 6 out of 10:
Due to the bad back, I did lot of easy-breezy cycling and these three classes:
Tuesday: Bootcamp Pilates — Another reformer pilates class that wasn’t as malicious as the other sessions I’ve done of late. But that’s only because I told the teacher from the jump about my back and I got to take it easy. There’s nothing easy about RP. Ever.
Wednesday: HIIT at Another Space — It’s funny what the promise of a goodie bag and a free lunch will motivate you to do, even when you know deep down inside you probably shouldn’t do it. That ‘it’ was HIIT — the new class at Another Space that launched last week. My team at work was invited down to try it out, and on a normal day, I probably would’ve loved it. There was a bit of boxing involved and some circuit-y stuff — but the next morning my back made it painfully clear I was a fool. Good class though and once I’m fully healed, I’ll be back.
Friday: Prince Tribute Ride at Boom Cycle — By Friday, my back was just a tiny bit achy, but not so bad that I couldn’t ride along to Let’s Go Crazy, 1999 and Gett Off at this brilliant charity ride. Much love to Bangs for the energy and the Boom team for being, well, boom.
Calories/diet — 5 out of 10:
Diet wasn’t too bad over the last seven days, until I was introduced to the fried chicken donut burger from Bird. There’s people starving in Africa and I’m out here eating fried chicken donut burgers. But our country is steeped in real political turmoil, so I’m out here eating fried chicken donut burgers…
What did I learn?
It’s good to chillax, even if you don’t want to but the body forces you to, regardless. Still, I really, really, really, really want to get back into running — but better to take it easy now or face the consequences later methinks..
