Dan C. 🔦 — Weekly Denver Volunteer Spotlight!

Denver for Warren
Nov 7 · 3 min read

Each week we are spotlighting a Denver volunteer who inspires us to dream big and fight hard. 🇺🇸 💪 Whether you’re a veteran, brand new, or clicked on this page by accident this is your chance to hear what Denver for Warren is like from outstanding local volunteers.

Why are you in this fight with Warren?
I am in this fight because I believe wholeheartedly in the American ideal, but that the system that is in place to bring it to the people is fundamentally not working. I believe that what is required in this moment is a change in the way we think about, operate in, and relate to politics and the government in our everyday lives — Elizabeth Warren embodies that in this race, and is not only willing to fight for this change, but is able to communicate with the American people, connect it to their lives, and reject the apathy that is at the root of so many of our political shortcomings. Put simply, she has a broad-based, perceptive, and empathetic message, and has a plan for EVERYONE.

Is there a policy or area of interest that people can ask you about?
Institutional reforms, of all flavors! Especially democratic reforms, but I am also very interested in anti-trust, big tech, and environmental policy.

Any advice for new volunteers?
In my very limited experience, canvassing and phone banking, is so much more about listening and inspiring on your own than it is about being right and about being convincing. I know that my hesitation was that I was never quite sure enough to make such strong, important arguments about others’ lives to them, but so far I have found that volunteering in this way is about connecting with people, hearing their concerns, and sharing my own views to inspire, not to force. That has been really refreshing and exciting.

Tell us a little about your story:
In 2016, I was humbled by two things: 1) My lack of ability to help and to console the people I cared about in the days, weeks, and months following the election, and 2) My lack of understanding of the political system and the ways in which the government actually functions in people’s everyday lives. So I dove into absorbing as much information as I could about American politics, and sought to understand how we got to 2016 and what the state of the government and the environment was and was going to be moving forward.

What is your favorite volunteer event and what is one you would like to see offered in the future?
Canvassing! I was very pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I would love to see more tabling/GOTV/registration events in the future, but I think those will be better suited for later on in the campaign.

What would a Warren administration mean for you?
I have lived an extremely privileged life, and I think that a Warren administration would mean the most to me in that it would enable so many others to enjoy the same opportunities and, in so many arenas, to be truly able to participate in democracy and a meritocracy. A Warren administration would also signify to me an American people that believes in one other, believes in our communities, and sincerely believes in the great human ideals that founded our country. In all senses of the word, a Warren administration would mean progress.
