The problem is that Apple would be far from the first mover in this category. Nest was founded by an Apple alum to get at this exact purpose; Google bought next realizing that smart devices might be the “next big thing.”
You’re essentially arguing that Apple should pursue a strategy that essentially combine what Google/Alphabet has done with Nest and Home, and what Tesla has started doing with batteries. You’re arguing that Apple should be a follower instead of a leader, and more importantly, the economics of both those industries are very different from Apple’s: You buy a Nest, it stays on your wall for 10 years. Ditto with a Powerwall. Apple’s genius move with the iPhone was going from a 3–5 year replacement cycle as people had with Macs to a 2 year cycle for a device whose retail price is still >$650.
