Rep. Greimel receives backing from 4 major labor unions

AUBURN HILLS, MI — Tim Greimel, State Representative and Democratic candidate for Michigan’s 11th Congressional District, has received the endorsement the Service Employees International Union Michigan State Council (SEIU), the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 951 (UFCW), the International Association of Machinists (IAM), and the Communications Workers of America (CWA).

These four unions represent four of the twelve largest unions (by number of members) in the country; and both SEIU and the UFCW rank among the top five largest unions (2nd and 5th largest respectively). Collectively, these unions represent more than 4.4 million American workers (SEIU: 1.9m, UFCW: 1.4m, IAM: 650k, CWA: 550k).

SEIU Michigan, the largest of the four unions endorsing Rep. Greimel, consists of four locals who represent correctional officers, health care professionals, public sector workers both state and local government, and janitors throughout the state of Michigan.

“I’m thrilled at the outpouring of support we’re receiving from workers throughout the district,” said Greimel. “This is just the latest example of the momentum of our campaign. We must flip the U.S. House to place a check on the excesses of the President and Michigan’s 11th district is our best pickup opportunity here in Michigan. The Connor Lamb victory in Pennsylvania showed us we can win tough districts if we nominate candidates with a history of public service who have deep ties to their community.”

“We can always count on Tim Greimel to do the right thing for Michigan’s working families,” said Jeremy Tripp of the Michigan Corrections Organization, SEIU Local 526M “You don’t have to guess where Tim Greimel stands, he has been on the front lines fighting for progressive change in our state for over a decade.”

“In the State Legislature, Tim has had our members’ backs,” said Mike Schulte of the Communications Workers of America. “I’m confident Tim will continue to fight for working people in Congress.”

With the addition of these four unions, Rep. Greimel’s campaign has now been back by 29 labor unions.

Tim Greimel is seeking the Democratic nomination for Michigan’s 11th Congressional District. He has served as a state representative for the 29th state House district since 2012 and previously served as an Oakland County Commissioner and as President of the Rochester Community School Board. Since entering the race, Rep. Greimel has received the support of 29 labor unions, the National Organization for Women, Former Senator Carl Levin, Former Congressman Dale Kildee, Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper, Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, and many others.
