Win/ Win Relationships

How many ways are there to get what you want?

We all want things in life and compromises and negotiations are needed to get there. Our frame of mind is fundamental in how we conduct ourselves, the implications may have a bigger impact that you’d think.

We want to grow and so does any other party you are engaging with and that is important to bear in mind because there are wide reaching impacts of we conduct yourselves.

Definition — “Win/Win means that agreements or solutions are mutually beneficial, mutually satisfying. With a Win/Win solution, all parties feel good about the decision and feel committed to the action plan. Win/Win sees life as a cooperative, not a competitive arena.”

To judge the value of this mindset we should project two scenarios and move our gaze to the extremes of the scale, thinking win/ win or the alternative approach aimed solely to benefit yourself this would give us an indication of which side of the line we think it most preferable to be on.

A world where every party aims for win/ win would potentially result in more sharing, more collaboration, more support, more help, more engagement, more common goals being aimed at, a common vision created and a collaborative multi-stakeholder approach to reaching it. This approach would focus on the greater good and the long term benefits

A world where every party aims to get just what they want to the detriment of others would culminate in a world of greed, corruption, war, distrust, seclusion, battering down of the helpless, infringement of rules and laws, and conspiring elitism. This approach would focus on grab what you can and leave the helpless.

Now these are scaled extremes, but one I see lightness and ‘good’, the other darkness and ‘hate’.

So then comes the question — what do we desire?

In my understanding of the world and my vision we want and would all benefit from a healthy planet, healthy people, low waste in the system, synergy, creating ‘clean solutions’ and everyone helping everyone to become as good as they can be. It would be a world where we look at the long term and decide how we want this world to operate and then all work on getting there together.

We need to set a standard, an ethic by which to live — and YOU get to choose that!

We must conduct ourselves in such a way that we live to the ideals and standards we set and create a planet we would be ecstatically happy and proud to live in — this I believe is something we can do together.
