For the point I was trying to make, not depletable since finite and depletable are synonyms (fresh water, for example, is not depletable given enough energy to convert sea water, and the total global stocks of water are not depletable). Of course entropy applies. Fossil fuel is finite because the process of consuming it releases the energy previously used to make it. We can make synthetic hydrocarbons or use whale oil again so even hydrocarbons are you technically not depletable but natural fossil ones are).
The funniest misuse is ‘renewable energy’: such energy comes directly from the sun, a non-renewable resource. But we should take advantage: make hay while the sun shines ☺
