A Couple Thoughts on Taking Breaks After My Vacation to Italy

I never really want to take a break, but whenever I do I’m always surprised about the things that put themselves together in my mind… they repair and refresh in the background and it’s really quite extra-ordinary. This time the break was for my wedding and then my new wife and I’s Honeymoon in New York City and Italy so there was an extra little magic in there.

I wrote another article about two key takeaways that solidified for me as I sat poolside and thought about what will help me do my best work. (In short it’s making sure the highest value items I do on a regular basis are made into daily work habits and that I have accountability around those habits.)

But several other thoughts impressed themselves on me as we walked through the streets of country towns and city of Rome and Sorrento. Some of them I’ve already captured in private notes to themselves and some of them are free-floating… but I do feel inspired and energized by these seeming new keys and the relaxation and adventure that brought them.

The biggest value I think to this particular break is that I’m itching to get back to my work. Web design and marketing is my passion, and I don’t necessarily feel like I will have any trouble getting the work I need… but after the scarcity mode I have been in before has worn off, I am shifting my focus to a pursuit of digital craftsmanship, helping others, and focusing on customer service.

I generally love my job, but sometimes I get tired of certain in’s and out’s and it takes getting away occasionally to recognize how good I have it. I also ramped down my work before our wedding
