Nicely written piece. As someone recently transplanted from the beating heart of technology in the SF Bay Area to Australia, I see the abysmal internet speed as a real factor dragging down growth of the Australian tech scene — until that gets sorted out in much of the (inhabited) country, it will be really tough to compete with those places where connectivity is a given, both for attracting expats and for actually building things that need reliable high-throughput networks. I guess we’ll see what happens in the next few years with the proposed buildout of the NBN ;-)
