4-crop rotation (lentil, hard red winter wheat, garbanzo/fava, white winter wheat). So until we have combines that can artfully pick corn, beans, and squash from the same plot, maybe we need to pick our battles and focus on ‘easier’ polycultures?

Well I guess part of the conceptual question you’re wrestling with is whether or not crop rotation falls under “polyculture.” It’s more like sequential or serial monoculture — which is perfectly fine in my opinion and is pretty much the norm in most large scale growers right now anyway practicing “monocultures” whether organic or chemical. You don’t generally grow corn in the same field year after year after year.
