I understand the disconnect being addressed but I don’t think this is the best approach. It seems you have built the “open in gmail” button based on an assumption. As another commenter suggested, a quick look at the MX record for the user’s email domain would be better. If someone used another email provider, the “open in gmail” would only confuse them. Perhaps audiences I’ve dealt with aren’t as technologically advanced (or Google adherent) as yours.
