I’ve never understood this complaint against safe zones. All it means is that a person who has established a “safe zone” will try to give marginalized people a sympathetic ear. That’s it. Conservatives want to invade that “space”, basically insert themselves into a private conversation. Free expression doesn’t guarantee you an audience, a venue, or a megaphone. It sure seems to me like this conservative handwringing over safe zones is not at all about protecting ones right to speak, but rather about forcing others to listen. That is not free expression and never has been.
