Just out of morbid curiosity, what specifically are you talking about with the secret police spying on the political opposition and how does it excuse the unrelated allegations against Flynn? Regardless, it sounds like a blatant argument from hypocrisy fallacy and a willful distraction from honest discourse. Flynn resigned from an administration which has repeatedly made clear that they will not bend to any political or media pressures. It stands to reason, then, that this was not done for the optics or to save face over mere rumors, but rather because Flynn had actually violated the law. Does it not? The two papers you are talking about have indeed made mistakes and ALWAYS issued retractions, but never as far as I know manufactured a story like this out of thin air. Even so, I’m not sure what one has to do with the other. It’s a genetic fallacy.
