Hey Chuck, thanks for your thought.
I definitely agree with you that successful organizations design themselves organically (sometimes through self-organization like you mentioned). Times are changing and businesses need less Wharton MBA’s and more makers.
But I do want to clarify that while fields like I/O Psych and Org Design came from the Industrial Era, I’m not advocating for anything tied to a 20th century way of working. Proponents in these exact fields (which I listed above) are doing work that are on the bleeding edge of the future of work.
I’m saying let’s have more I/O Psychologists conduct studies of Holocratic/self-managed organizations, let’s have future of work org designers hire more behavioral scientists. Hopefully that makes sense, Chuck.
