You Shouldn’t Have to Wear a Suit to Make Them Take You Seriously
Candice Aiston

I remember my moot court. I’d had a bad day at work. I’d had a resin stain on my shirt, forgotten my tie and was probably looking a little like Doc Brown (Back to the Future) absent the white coat. The young man on the other side strides into the room looking like a million bucks. Tall, about 6’4”, fine dark Navy suit, polished shoes, leather satchel, he strides in like an experience lawyer.

At the end of the experience, the Judges blasted this young man for having earrings. Comments such as how distracting the earrings were, how unprofessional and several others along those lines were said.

So it’s not only women who suffer for their fashion in the world of law.
