Just remember that most rules were written to give management a tool to prevent bad behavior. With Governmental interventions, it isn’t as easy as firing those who break the rules. Policies and procedures need to be written, annual training given and written acknowledgement of training recorded to have a modicum of a chance to fire someone without a lawsuit.
People spend a lot of effort trying to bend the guidelines, to see how far they can get with the trust they are given. Allow simple purchases and all of a sudden all of a child’s school supplies are paid by the company. Justified by the wrongdoer because of the demands of the job and impossible to fire the person because of lack of policy.
Trust is a huge issue in employment and one that is incredibly easy to break. Unfortunately when lawyers and governments get involved the decision of right and wrong is no longer clear.
