Time for Coffee!

While the last view releases were quite incremental and were mainly smart improvements, now comes a new big release with many exciting new features (and more to come in the next release)

WatchOS 2

Finally it’s here. We had a prototype since a long time, but it wasn’t that easy to make it work right (and we had some TestFlight issues with it). But now is the time. Time for Coffee! on the Apple Watch is developed against WatchOS 2 (the “old” version of course also worked on the Apple Watch with WatchOS 2).

While the UI didn’t change much, it now doesn’t rely on your phone anymore (except for the internet connection, when there’s no Wi-Fi available) and it should feel in general a little bit snappier.

The main new possible feature with WatchOS 2 are complications:

Complications on the watch

You can now put departures info directly on your watch face and see your next connection even without starting the app

Space is very limited, so not all of those complications are really useful, but we still support them anywhere.

The complication shows you the departure of your favourited departures from your next favourite station or just the nearest station (like the today widget does).

Due to the nature of complication (they are updated on regular intervals and not on demand), the data is not real-time, but just the scheduled times. That’s also why it may take some time until they are updated, if you are at a different place, but this will be improved in the next version.

Thanks a lot to Raphael Neuenschwander for that feature.

More real time data for larger parts of Switzerland

We found some more sources for real time data and integrated them in timeforcoffee.ch. Now you can not only get real time data (aka know when your bus/train is delayed) for SBB trains and the greater Zurich area, but also for eastern Switzerland, the northwestern part, geneva and large parts of central Switzerland. And we changed the code, so that we can easily add new parts without having to release a new app version.

Platform info

A long requested feature, finally done. Display on which platform the train or bus leaves. Especially useful on large stations. It’s also available on the Today Widget and the Watch.

Now works in the rest of Europe, too

For train connections, the Time for Coffee! App works now in Europe, too. For a lot of train stations, not only the major ones, from Lisboa to Moscow. Sometimes even with delay information.

App Icon Short Cuts

If you have a iPhone 6s (plus), you can now 3D Touch the App Icon and directly access Search, Favorites or your two last visited stations.

Sneak Peek for next version: “Passlist”

Passlists. Design may change!

In the hopefully soon to be finished next version of the app, we will add an also often supported feature. So called passlists (we need to find a better name for that…). Tap on a connection and you’ll see, where that takes you, including a map where all those stations are. No more guessing, where that train/tram/bus will take you ;)
