Father’s Day is the day Dads can rock his socks and sandals without being bugged. It’s the day you get to remind him how awesome of a cheerleader he has been throughout your swimming, soccer or hockey days. It’s all about him on Sunday and there’s no better way to celebrate than with a good family cookout.

Although your grilling skills may not be at par with your Dad’s, there’s nothing that says I love you more than a home cooked meal. So get the entire family together and dig into a big feast!

Here are 5 things to include in your backyard burger bar!

  1. Homemade Burgers

Dad wants the real deal on his big day! Get your hands dirty in the kitchen and make your very own burgers! Don’t have a family recipe kickin’ around? Try this burger recipe!

2. Fresh Veggies

Make a stop at your local Farmer’s Market on Saturday and fill your basket with fresh veggies for your burgers. A juicy bite of a burger, complemented with crisp veggie toppings is a sure sign of Summer.

3. Homemade BBQ Sauce

Add a little variety to the sauces you serve on your burger table. Of course offer the ketchup and mustard, but add a unique option like homemade BBQ sauce. For the active meal preppers, make extra and store in a airtight container for your next BBQ. Try this recipe.

4. Sweet Potato Wedges

If sweet potatoes are all the rage in your family, then add them to your cookout menu. Toss them on the grill and whip up a creamy avocado sauce to pair with it. Be sure to double up on the number of potatoes, as these will go fast! Find recipe here.

5. Sweet Lemonade

Avoid the sugar packed juices that the kids will likely be begging for, and make your very own healthier fruit lemonade. Have the little ones help with mixing and use fun paper straws to top them off. Once your kids have one sip, they’ll forget about the juice mixes that come in a powder form. For fresh lemonade try this recipe.

There’s likely nothing that you and your family can buy that will make Dad as happy as an afternoon spent in the backyard enjoying great food. If you have a morning to spare, spend some time in the kitchen putting together a meal with love. If you’re short on time don’t forget SupperWorks always has fantastic options for the grill!

From the SupperWorks Waterloo Family to yours, have a Happy Father’s Day!
