The SupperworksKW Story: 10th Anniversary Edition
Did you know SupperworksKW has been open for ten years? It’s hard to believe a decade has already passed! Milestones like this are a great time for reflecting on the past. For Supperworks’s 10-year anniversary, I decided to answer some of the most common questions I get from customers, along with my favourite recipes and some highlights from the past 10 years.
How did you get involved with SupperworksKW? What led you to open your own franchise?
My business partner and I had young families, and we realized how difficult it was to balance a traditional 9-to-5 job while also raising young children. At the end of the day we’d each be putting our kids to bed, exhausted, and it wasn’t what we pictured motherhood being like for ourselves. We discovered Supperworks and initially, we were customers. We loved the concept of making meal preparation social and fun, and we found it saved us so much time.
Both of us always had an entrepreneurial bug, and we knew that opening a Supperworks franchise was what we wanted to do next. Running SupperworksKW, along with my own staff and the broader Supperworks family, has made it possible for me to enjoy more time with my family. My husband and my kids can stop by Supperworks when I’m working and get involved in the activities. The family-friendly nature of SupperworksKW is a huge part of our appeal for our customers — I think a lot of them love the fact that my thirteen-year-old daughter is here helping with dishes, just because she loves it, or that my husband is around changing a lightbulb and being our handyman.
Do you and your family eat Supperworks meals?
I’m always bringing home meals from Supperworks, and my kids get excited to try things that I’ve brought home. It’s made them more adventurous and encouraged them to try things they might not have tried if I made it home.
I also love being able to tell customers that they’re building meals my own family loves.
Who are your customers? What types of people come to SupperworksKW?
We have a huge range of customers. Some of our regular visitors have small children, and started coming to SupperworksKW on Saturday mornings, which is our Bring Your Child Day. Out of all the Supperworks locations, SupperworksKW holds the most Bring Your Child sessions, and we love to see kids getting hands-on involvement in meal preparation. Coming here helps kids to understand the value of cooking and healthy meals, because they’re hearing about it from someone other than their parents.
But many of our regular customers are also people who want to stay involved in meal preparation but have trouble opening jars, or people who live alone and have trouble using up a whole pepper or tomato before it goes bad. So SupperworksKW also works great for people that enjoy great, high-quality food, but live alone and need smaller portions.
What’s your favourite SupperworksKW meal?
Ron’s Favourite Flat Irons is one of my top choices. It’s delicious and perfect for barbecue season!
What direction is SupperworksKW headed in the future?
The trend I’m seeing more and more is that people want the convenience of having meals delivered right to their door. Our customers trust the quality and freshness of our ingredients, and they trust us to assemble their meals for them! I’ve seen the popularity of delivery grow a lot over the last decade, and I think that trend is going to continue.
We’re also seeing that our holiday meal packages are increasing in popularity. More and more, people don’t want to spend valuable family time in the kitchen during holidays — they want to make the most of their time. Our holiday family meal packages at Christmas and Easter provide a way for families to enjoy quality meals AND quality time with each other.
