This is one of the most important posts I have read for people like us. Because it’s the same globally, I suspect, for us middle class sleepwalkers – we held good and decent values, and made an effort to follow and teach them. But now we realise they must be fought for. We became complacent, the battles seemed won; but freedoms and rights must constantly be fought for. We have learnt, too late for what is happening now, that complacency has a terrible price. Let us hope losing the battle teaches us how to fight – and win – the war.
