How to choose your tablet

A tablet is an electronic touch-screen device, but in some cases it can be equipped with a keyboard. Depending on the size of the screen it can be small, medium or large.

Most tablets are currently produced with the Android operating system, in one of its versions. However, it is not uncommon to find tablets manufactured by Apple that include the iOS operating system; or made by Microsoft and therefore equipped with Windows 10.

how to choose your tablet

Its functionality, as well as the reasons why a tablet can be used are very many and very variable. In fact, you can even use it as a small laptop: using the tablet’s keyboard or an additional one you can write more or less large texts, watch movies, use various programs and much more. In fact, the uses that can be made with this tablet are so many that it becomes even difficult to list them all and with the advance of technology the uses increase.

You can use it to make phone calls, text messages, email, watch streaming, talk to a person on the other side of the world, and so on. Obviously, in the absence of an Internet connection many of its features are lost, but a tablet is still a multifunctional device that today you can hardly do without.

To work properly, the tablet includes some mechanisms, the most important of which are the processor, operating memory, graphics memory, hard disk and so on. All these systems are then connected to each other and work in tune to transmit the image on the display. In the absence of one of these components the tablet would simply not turn on. To all this is added a detail we talked about just before: the operating system.

The operating system therefore offers the user the possibility to be in front of a very comfortable graphic interface. Thanks to the latter, using the tablet becomes really simple. As already mentioned, there are three operating systems that allow the tablet to work: iOS, Android and Windows 10. There is no better operating system and everyone must choose according to their needs and requirements. However, it must be remembered that iOS operating systems are limited only to tablets produced by Apple, while Android operating systems can be found on all other devices.

In addition to these, there is also the Windows 10 operating system, which, although not very popular, is still used for a certain purpose since it is the one most familiar to users. Depending on the operating system chosen can change both the comfort of use of the tablet and the speed of use. For this reason the operating system is one of the most important factors to choose according to your needs.

Screen and display
To tell the truth, the display of a tablet is also an extremely important factor to evaluate: the larger the display, the greater the comfort derived from the use of the device. Most tablets are sold with a 7, 8 or 10 inch display, but there is also a wide range of devices on the market with a larger display, such as 12 or 14 inches.

These almost always go with accessories, such as extra keyboards and pens. The material that can be used to make a tablet display also varies, but generally the most widely used type of display is the LCD, but more and more often materials such as Amoled and many others are used.

Finally, it is also worth remembering everything about the resolution. The resolution can be more or less large, but generally the higher the resolution, the better the definition. It is no coincidence that tablets with a high resolution are also the most expensive ones. As if that weren’t enough, displays can include HDR (High Dynamic Range Imaging) technology, which further increases the quality of the movies or images displayed on the tablet, making it ideal for a wide range of different graphic works.

Operating System
As already mentioned, the operating system is one of the most important factors of choice because the comfort of use of the tablet depends on it. Currently the most widely used operating system in tablets around the world is Android 10. The latter is used not only in tablets, but also in smartphones. Its advantages include ease of use, speed and the ability to activate various functions in a very simple way.

Its main competitor is Apple’s iPad OS. Here, too, we are dealing with an operating system that is very comprehensive and carefully designed down to the smallest detail. Its advantages are not few at all, but there is also a big disadvantage: it is limited only to tablets made by Apple itself.

Finally, the Windows 10 operating system in its tablet version stands out. Among those listed is the least widespread, also because of the lack of Microsoft’s presence with its devices on the big market. Nevertheless, it is familiar to many customers who prefer Android or iOS systems because of its simplicity and familiarity. In fact, even today Windows systems are the most used on PCs.

CPU, RAM and battery
Among the most important components of a tablet are the CPU (i.e. processor), motherboard, RAM and battery. The CPU is directly responsible for the speed of tablet operation. Approximately, the higher its frequency, the better the device will work. With a good processor, tablets tend not to jam, but to run smoothly and continuously.

The CPU is directly connected to RAM, which is volatile memory. It is directly connected to the ability to perform many functions at the same time and with a good RAM on the tablet you can watch videos, listen to music, write, draw and do more. Obviously, it is better anyway that the RAM is very high: in this way the device will never be overloaded because of the different operations you can perform on it. Usually the RAM on tablets is not very high and having a device with 4 GB of RAM you can be sure that it works very well.

Finally, the battery is responsible for powering the tablet. When choosing the device it is best to pay attention to everything related to the battery: it should not discharge quickly and have a high autonomy. The longer the battery life, the longer you can work on the device.

Internal memory, expansion and ports
The internal memory is the physical memory on which all data on the device is stored. The internal memory capacity of the device is defined by the hard disk: the higher its capacity, the better it will be. In some cases it is possible to further expand the internal memory thanks to special accessories that are connected to the device.

These are connected to the device through some ports located on the tablet itself. The ports can be of very different types: USB 3.0 or 4.0, Lightning and so on. The amount of ports, but also the variability of the same ports makes a tablet more easily connectable to other devices.

Phone Sim support
When talking about the various features of a tablet, you can’t forget everything about the support for a phone SIM card either. Many tablets, in fact, include a special space useful to place a SIM so not only to take advantage of a 3G, 4G and soon maybe even 5G data connection, but even make calls using your tablet as a smartphone.

In any case, if you want to buy a tablet with a SIM slot, you have to pay attention to the type of SIM that can be inserted in it.
