Like I’ve said many times before, being a person of faith is not a bed of roses, at least not in these times. One must go through many trials and tribulations, walk through some severely dark places, and face a multitude of rejection and contempt. It’s all in the Scrip, and that’s why I believe in it more each day, not less.

The key is to focus on the Teacher and the lessons and not so much on the high school bullies or the possibility of getting a question answer wrong. I’ll be the first to say it’s much easier said than done.

There are times when I want to knock the high school bullies into next week and times when I want to walk away altogether, but neither action would accomplish much in the scheme of things. They’re there for a reason. It’s exam time once again.

The good thing about those faith exams is that they’re retakeable as long as we don’t drop out of school. As long as breath exists in our bodies, we can miss a couple of questions and take the tests again if we don’t get perfect scores. We might get some right and some wrong, but hopefully, we’ll know more of the correct answers next time around.

All such lessons are meant for good, no matter how gruesome, painful, or downright devastating they may be. Even if other people mean them for bad on us, the Ultimate Teacher can turn them into something beautiful. He can use them to grow us, build our character, or make us more trusting (of God) or resilient.

Only He knows what He’s working in each one of us and what part of us He wants to shape or refine. Our job is to let the processes occur and not run from them or allow them to turn our hearts cold or shut our lights out.

So, if you‘ve suffered a lot in this life, but you’re still alive today and still have bright lights and a warm heart, you can go ahead and say Halleluyah, and to God be the glory.

*The answer is yes. I am a woman of faith, a believer, during every moment of my life. Some of my practices match those of some organized religions and some do not, so I don’t label or affiliate myself with any such labels. But I 100% believe in “God” and all things holy. That is all. *
