“If you don’t think gender diversity is important, then you won’t have the best team you could possibly have,” said Peter Riccio, founding partner at New York-based recruitment firm Atlas Search.

Selecting for gender diversity will not get you the best team you could possibly have either. I would try to pick the best qualified candidates and use gender diversity as a tie breaker. You do need to create a culture where well qualified women even bother to apply.
