I do not disagree with any of your comments. My assertion “Income inequality might just save the planet, if almost everyone is too poor to have a car and home and kids then that may be the end of consumerism” was intended to be thought provoking, deliberately provocative and not serious.

Thanks for taking the bait and adding valuable elaboration to my simplistic statement.

I can imagine a society where a large percentage of the population lives an ascetic lifestyle of education and contemplation with little interest in procreation, physical possessions or personal property. I can imagine such a society but I can imagine a path from where we are to there.
