This got a top highlight and probably deserved it but it is not true.

If you are primarily motivated by the satisfaction of doing a job well done then your motivation grows with each accomplishment. I am motivated by what I can get from doing something but getting it only make me want more.
The want, need, desire are the key. We all want. Everything is done out of self interest but sometime what is good for you is good for others. I will even suffer for others but I am doing it for myself, it satisfies some internal need.
If you give away your last piece of chocolate it feels a lot different than if someone takes it from you. Giving away the chocolate is not suffering it is joy. Someone taking your chocolate causes suffering. The suffering is not so much the loss of the chocolate as it is to loss of the good feeling of sharing and the violation of the taking.
