ADJECTIVE

NOUN

  • a person who is averse to change and holds to traditional values and attitudes, typically in relation to politics.

Does this sound like the political right wing? The political right is not adverse to change they are pushing for change just as hard as the political left. Seems like the huge tax cut we saw passed under the current right wing political administration is a change and does not hold to traditional values. It was an activist attack on the status quo.

The political left can’t be consider conservative and I don’t think I need explain why I believe that. I think it is self evident. If the political right is pushing for changes then it can’t be considered conservative.

That leaves the moderates and the centrists. Moderates and centrists, those of the electorate that are not strongly supportive of changes, those are the true conservatives and if it was not for the need to change our attitudes about the environment I could count myself a conservative.
