Good question. It opens up another horizon: What Adorno primarily means by suffering is inhumane suffering that is imposed by others, a dehumanizing suffering. Of course, sacrifice for others is often more of a humane gesture, that, at least potentially, is one of hope. It announces something new, but it is for the ones who remain to fulfill this promise. So I think sacrifice for others is never the whole story.
