iOS 11 is here, and along with it we’ve got a sweet update for Opener ready! Opener 1.4 is available today, here’s what’s new.

A little facelift

Let’s get the obvious out of the way first. I’m no designer, and some people have complained about the design for Opener’s icon over the years. This version brings a fresh new look to Opener’s icon, made by someone who knows their way around Photoshop.

Making Jony proud

Opener also looks great on iOS 11 with big headers and app install buttons reskinned to match the all new App Store.

Drag and drop

One of the most notable features from the iOS 11 announcement was drag and drop. We’re proud to announce that Opener 1.4 supports drag and drop, you can pick up a link or a snippet of text from anywhere and drop it in the Opener app to see opening options.

You can also drag the browser row from Opener and drop it in other apps.

Shines on iPad

In addition to drag and drop support, Opener 1.4 adds some other nice refinements on the iPad. First and foremost, it now supports keyboard shortcuts for you Smart Keyboard-toting power users.

You can use these shortcuts to quickly perform actions or access the app's settings.

Opener 1.4 also adds an option to enable auto-open actions when running in split view multitasking, but disables them by default. It makes sense to disable auto-open when multitasking on iPad because it could throw you out of place by mistake.

The little things

In addition to the iPad-centric enhancements mentioned above, there’s some great stuff for everyone.

  • An improvement was made that will cause many types of links to open even faster, including opening in Safari.
  • Opener is now better at detecting links in blocks of text from web pages.
  • Opener is now better at handling some common popular redirect domains that previously wouldn’t work.
  • If you have Opener’s AMP lookup setting enabled and attempt to open a link that’s already an AMP link we’ll detect it properly without performing an additional lookup.

Opener 1.4 is available now, we hope you like it! As always, if you have any feedback feel free to tweet or email us.
