In the short term, automation will inevitably lead to the gentrification (for better or for worse) of less developed / undeveloped nations. As automation increases in high tech nations, manual labor will be forced to relocate to the more burgeoning economies of the world. These people will bring skills and management capabilities that less developed nations crave, and will ultimately find a more fulfilling life. We’ll see a reversal of the traditional economic migration toward the west as people seek out economies that best fit their personal abilities. It’s going to get ugly at first, but in the end, we’ll likely emerge as a single human race, and then we can start pursuing goals and endeavors that actually move us forward as a species.
