hello. it’s Timothy with yet another blog entry. as stated when I first found a home here on Medium, I knew I would be blogging a little bit of this and a little bit of that. I never thought though that I would blog such an entry that would impact me on such a personal level.

today we are reading the entire chapter of Isaiah 53. in breaking this down into Kidspeak, the things I knew became more evident. example, the pain of Messiah.

I set out to try to reach the orthodox Jew and Christian a like. I wanted this study to be both readable and understandable to both adult and child. I hope I have done this in this entry. and now, Isaiah 53.

Who has believed what we have heard? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?

He grew up before him like a young plant and like a root out of dry ground. He didn’t have an impressive form or majesty that we should look at him, no appearance that we should desire him.

we clearly are talking about a single person. the word, “he,” gives that away. so who are we talking about?

what does it all mean?

. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering who knew what sickness was. He was like someone people turned away from; he was despised, and we didn’t value him.

Yet he himself bore our sicknesses, and he carried our pains; but we in turn regarded him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted.

wo! what? hold the phone. HE took our iniquities? our sickness? who is this guy anyway?

NOTE. … iniquities, sickness, it all goes back to sin. what is sin? it’s not adding up to God’s holy profection, it’s missing the mark, his standard.

End note.

we know Messiah is the one to deliver his people. hmm. could it be?

. But he was pierced because of our rebellion, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on him, and we are healed by his wounds.

what does it mean that we were healed by his wounds? what wounds?

We all went astray like sheep; we all have turned to our own way; and the LORD has punished him for the iniquity of us all.

why would he take the blame for our iniquities after all, who but God could or would do such a thing?

He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth. Like a lamb led to the slaughter and like a sheep silent before her shearers, he did not open his mouth.

let me get this strait, this person took our iniquities? wow. why? he clearly was in pain yet said nothing? how’s that possible?

. He was taken away because of oppression and judgment; and who considered his fate? For he was cut off from the land of the living; he was struck because of my people’s rebellion.

He was assigned a grave with the wicked, but he was with a rich man at his death, because he had done no violence and had not spoken deceitfully.

Yet the LORD was pleased to crush him severely. When you make him a guilt offering, he will see his seed, he will prolong his days, and by his hand, the LORD’s pleasure will be accomplished.

Guilt offering? and what’s this all about sharing a grave?

I think at this point, we must consider looking outside of these blessed Hebrew scriptures but where to look?

. After his anguish, he will see light and be satisfied. By his knowledge, my righteous servant will justify many, and he will carry their iniquities.

Therefore I will give him the many as a portion, and he will receive the mighty as spoil, because he willingly submitted to death, and was counted among the rebels; yet he bore the sin of many and interceded for the rebels.

let’s examine what we know starting from the very beginning of the chapter. does documents exist that points us to a particular person?

The BBC has some interesting comments which I believe will render a very useful and practical prospective in setting the tone for the insuing dialog as for which we are about to imbark.

we know that the man spoken of in Isaiah 53 isn’t all that attractive. nothing of sentamental value really stands out when discussing his appearance.

in Luke chapter 2 verses 21 through 52 we read of the journey of a family. this family was separated from one of the children in that family, the child known as Jesus. clearly nothing in his appearance stood out yet his intelligence at the age of 12 certainly stood out.

we must then ask ourselves, then the following question. who but Messiah would know so much at such a young age? and clearly this little boy had nothing attractive about him. we have nothing in scripture that even hints at such a thing. so then we can conclude and I believe this to be the case that he must have looked really just like every other little boy of that time as nothing physically set him apart from any other child of that day.

as I think on these things, I think of an international problem we have today that wasn’t a problem back then that being childhood obesity. Jesus probably had a proper diet which if eaton today would probably make the children of today cringed in discust. the boy Jesus probably would have been of average hight and weight for a boy of that time. being that his earthly Father was a carpenter, he probably would have taken on the traid and would have by then have developed muscles as would have been common back then of the child taking on the Fathers traid.

As Jesus grew into a man, he still wasn’t attractive. let us keep that in mind as we continue this study.

. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering who knew what sickness was. He was like someone people turned away from; he was despised, and we didn’t value him.

imagine being the child chosen last for your favorite game. perhaps you don’t have to imagine it. perhaps you live with that every day. you aren’t alone. You get picked on, ridiculed, and yet you still try to fit into the cool proud.

let me ask you a question. would you sacrifice your happiness, your position for an enemy? many i’ll be it most of us would say no way. yet Jesus did just that by taking our iniquities, sin to the cross at Calvary.

why did he do this? well, we’re given the answer in John 15. Jesus said greator love has no man then this that he would lay down his life for his friends. although do to the lack of unbelief we were enemies of the cross and the cause of Christ yet throughout all of that, he still loves. that’s perhaps the most incredible part of all of this. why would you love the bully on the playground? because there’s always hope. by loving while being afflicted with all kinds of evil, you heap shame on this bully and through your actions, perhaps the bully would want to know how to have what you have. that’s then a perfect opportunity to share your faith in Christ.

I posed the question earlier, what does Isaiah mean when he talks of us being healed by his wounds? what does Isaiah say in chapter 9 verse 6? he talks of how the prince of peace will come, he will endure all things as our wonderful councilor, our all mighty God, our ever lasting Father. sounds like he’s clearly referring to Messiah.

let’s reference Mark’s Gospel, looking at the 15th chapter. it was all on his sholders. all of our sin. the wages of sin is death. we find this out as far back as Lividicus if not earlier. if you were unclean, you could be cut off or worse, be killed depending on the nature of your sin.

this isn’t the case today. why? because Messiah fulfilled the sacrificial sermonies of the law. in the days before Messiah, the only way to be forgiven of your sins is by sacrificing an animal that followed strict guidelines as setfourth by God. it was a pretty brumal time to be living in and you can thank the Lord Jesus we no longer live in those days. he bore our punishment on the cross.

why would he take the blame for our iniquities after all, who but God could or would do such a thing?

let’s look at the why. it’s mind blowing and will send you reeling but here’s why. because he loves us. John 3:16 says that God loves so much that he gave us his son. but why? because if you believe in him you are saved. from what? a literal place called hell.

note, reference John 3:16.

who but God would do such a thing? who but God indeed. John 10:30 says that I and my Father are 1 and in John 1:14 we see that the word of God that’s Messiah, anyway, the word of God became flesh. it dwelled among us. wow. talk about love. and in John 15 we see Jesus saying greator love has no man then this that he would lay down his life for his friends. so we are not only loved but we are friends? incredible is it not? wow.

let me get this strait, this person took our iniquities? wow. why? he clearly was in pain yet said nothing? how’s that possible?

you got it. see God had to have a human sacrifice without sin. without iniquities. so Jesus had to do it. how could he go through this and still remain quiet? well, reference Mark 15 and you will see that he spoke not a word and yet was lead to the slotter fulfilling the words found in this very chapter.

isn’t that amazing? and do you know why he did it all? he did it all out of love and out of obedience to the will of the Father. that’s incredible.

what’s a guilt offering?

it’s an offering to God that is made on behalf of the people do to their guilt, this offering is a substitution that makes them clean.

now, about the rich man and his grave. this is referring to Joseph. see Mark 15:40–42.

a lot more can be said but perhaps you are wondering, am I saying that Jesus is Messiah? yes I am. he is the son of the living God, the Lord of all.

he came as a baby, became rejected, died on a cross which was how he payed for our sin and yet the world over all rejects him.

he came as a babe, lived and died then rose again on the third day and is now seated at the rite hand of God the Father. he came as a babe but next time he comes, it will be to set up his millennial kingdom.

I eagerly await the return of our blessed Messiah.
