If you’re a fan of the mixed martial arts organization UFC, you may recognize Bruce Buffer’s trademark quote which he says before main event championship fights. I’ve heard him say “it’s time!” dozens of occasions. There’s something about those words that get me revved up, excited, ready to watch two warriors go at it in a cage and impose their will on each other.

Tonight I went to a WFC (World Fighting Championship) event in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

A friend of mine, Eugene, was in a boxing match (to his left is another friend, Kyle). As I was sitting there analyzing each boxer, I began to think how much combat sports is like the world of business.

  1. In business, you’re fighting for something- your family’s freedom. Some people are fighting for a luxury car, boat, etc…I’m not. I’m fighting to take money away from the big banks and give it to children who need clean water, etc.
  2. You have to train to be great. No one walks off the street and becomes a world champion fighter. You need to dedicate time, energy, money, and give up things to focus on honing your skill set.
  3. You need a good coach, and also a training partner. You can’t hold the pads for yourself. You need someone to help you along your journey.
  4. In fighting and in business, if you’re not in it to be the best, I feel you shouldn’t be in it at all.
  5. You have to promote yourself. No one is going to come to your gym and make your dreams come true.
  6. You only get a short time in the spotlight, so make it count. In UFC, you get three 5:00 rounds or five 5:00 rounds. In that short time, you must impose your will on your competition.
  7. You’re going to get knocked down, beat up, and bloodied. But you must not shy away from taking shots, you must get up and fight again.
  8. You have to be confident that you will be victorious. I’ve never heard Conor Mcgregor say “oh I think I’ll win, I sure hope so”. Rather, I’ve only heard him affirm his belief that he will emerge from the contest, victorious.
  9. Cody Roseberry said “You’re broke when you start, but there’s power in that hunger…” (Daymond John even wrote a book called Power Of Broke)- when I started my company I ran out of money and slept in my car, using a 24/7 gym membership to shower and clean up. Today I’m building a hundred-million dollar data processing business.

It’s time for me to rise up and be the greatest force for good my industry has ever seen. It’s time for us to train, sweat, and fight for our families freedom. It’s time for you to stop putting off the commitment to being a multi-millionaire, and start your training camp. You can’t get back yesterday. Make today count. Start fighting for your success. IT’S TIME.
