Into the Spyverse?

Citadel Season 1 (2023) Television Series Review

When you start watching Citadel you get the typical boilerplate train spy sequence even accented by a sequence with the stereotypical “woman in red.” But by the time the first half hour of the show is over it resembles a Mission Impossible sequel than anything we have seen from spy movies for quite a few years (except Mission Impossible and James Bond, of course). The story basically revolves around Mason Kane (Richard Madden) who gets involved with one of his co-workers Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra Jonas). They ended up at the center of a plot to take over the world and only Mason can stop them (sort of…) (no spoilers…)

The show has a really excellent supporting cast; everyone from the amazing Stanley Tucci to a very interesting performance by Lesley Manville. There are some really good action sequences peppered throughout the series. But I would say that none of the subsequent sequences ever reaches the heights of that first episode. This is really a shame considering that this series is supposed to be broken out into multiple parts that will be piloted by multiple actors. Then everything is supposed to fit back together. It’s the “Citadel Spyverse.” Which is what Amazon explains at the end of the final…
