On paper “The Kill Room” looks like both the best and worst movie ever made (at least for me). The movie is about a group of gangsters and a struggling gallery owner who find some common ground to make them both, a killing…

“The Kill Room” is a dark comedy but judging by the ratings on IMDb it seems like most people didn’t find it very funny. I thought the movie did a great job as a bit of a heist and fish out of water movie. The fish is Reggie (Joe Manganiello) who is a mafia hit man turned artist. While Reggie barely speaks for two thirds of the movie; the majority of the movie is carried by Uma Thurman ( playing Patrice) the gallery owner. With her performance the movie either lives or dies. As a huge Uma Thurman fan in general, I was quite happy with her performance and her character. Although she could have done a much better job had the writing been better. Patrice’s Intern (Amy Keum) does a decent job of trying to come up with some straight man comic relief. But I don’t think this movie was destined to be a comedy except in the sense of commentating on the Art World in general. Which it does quite well, but making this a very dark comedy as well as attempting this commentary really makes sure the movie is only made for a select group of people. Which obviously wasn’t…
