Direct-to-consumer (DTC) DNA testing has become mainstream! DNA collection kits are now stocking stuffers but, once you know your ancestry, what next?

Did you know you can access and read your raw DNA data at home, and there are also a number of websites that can help analyze your DNA data? To get started you first need to download your raw autosomal, here are instructions for 23andMe, Ancestry DNA, Family Tree DNA, My Heritage, Genes For Good, Vitagene, and Living DNA. Be sure to save your DNA file to a safe location! If you want to look at the raw data it’s easiest to use a text editor since each file is >600k lines long. Below are 21 websites that can use to analyze your DNA data;

1. DNA Romance is an online dating site that can forecast "Romantic Chemistry" between single people online. The analysis evaluates genes with the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) and matches you with people who are more dissimilar to you.

2. dbSNP this is your primary resource to check individual single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), insertions and deletions (InDels) along with publication, population frequency, molecular consequence, and genomic and RefSeq mapping information for both common variations and clinical mutations.

3. DNA Power empowers you to make smarter health decisions based on your unique genetic blueprint. They have various products including DNA based fitness, diet and skin reports

4. GEDmatch provides DNA and genealogical analysis tools for amateur and professional researchers and genealogists. Most tools are free, but a few premium tools are available. Several novel tools are offered including an eye color report, are your parents related? and Archaic DNA matches. The Eye Colour Prediction utility was developed using samples from the GEDmatch database which consists mostly of European descendants. Are your parents related? ‘Runs of Homozygosity’ (ROH) are large blocks of SNPs where both alleles are the same, there is an indication that your parents each inherited that block from the same ancestor. This analysis looks at ROH in your DNA file and is specifically aimed at determining how closely related your parents might be. Archaic DNA matches compare your DNA to that of people who lived thousands of years ago.

5. HIrisPlex-S Eye, Hair and Skin Colour DNA Phenotyping Webtool is easy to use an interactive website to predict eye, hair and skin color from DNA using the IrisPlex, HIrisPlex and HIrisPlex-S systems.

6. DNA.LAND offers an ancestry analysis that compares your DNA with reference data from different populations to see where in the world your ancestors might have lived. They also offer reports on physical and wellness traits, determined from DNA based on published scientific research, tools for DNA data imputation and a relative-matching feature.

7. Promethease is a literature retrieval system that builds a personal DNA report based on connecting a file of DNA genotypes to the scientific findings cited in SNPedia. *Be aware that Promethease reports on individual SNPs only, yet most traits and diseases are complex (polygenic) and not controlled by a single DNA marker. In Promethease it's unknown how all these markers work together, my report contains 265 SNPs with information with breast cancer, do they have canceling effects or magnifying effects on each other? As they say this report is for educational and research purposes only.

8. WeGene offers ancestry and trait reports for specifically for people of Asian descent.

9. Xcode.Life offers a range of different DNA analysis including lifestyle reports (Fitness, Diet and Nutrition Reports), skin and allergy reports, health reports, and ancestry composition.

10. GeneKnot A site which allows the user to upload genome data and compare DNA with other people with similar disease risks.

11. Gene Heritage shows you what genes you inherited and can pass down. Traits include eye color, lactose intolerance, alcohol flush reaction, taste, and smell sensitivity.

12. Genetic Homeland use Y-DNA, surname histories, and geographical analysis tools to identify your genetic homeland and facilitate further research and visits

13. GENOtation is an application for users to look up their genotype and interpret how their specific genotype affects their risk for disease, ancestry, and traits.

14. Impute.me provides imputation services combined with polygenic SNP analysis for common traits and diseases.

15. OpenSNP allows customers of direct-to-customer genetic tests to publish their test results, find others with similar genetic variations, learn more about their results, find the latest primary literature on their variations and help scientists to find new associations.

16. Oxford Statistics Phasing Server is a free utility to phase whole genomes based on VCF files.

17. Wired For Weed? this is a guide to self-explore your DNA data file and evaluate DNA markers that correspond to different effects of Cannabis on the individual; including cravings for marijuana, withdrawal symptoms after abstinence, and sensitivity to its acute effects.

18. Codegen provides health report using 23andMe raw data.

19. Vinome analyses your DNA and matches you with hard-to-find wines selected for your unique palate.

20. Infinome is an open science movement that aims to move genetic research out of the lab and into the real world. The experiment and its results will be freely available to all. Anyone with data can anonymously participate.

21. DNA Fit provides full fitness and nutrition reports, meal plans based on your genetic profile, training plans based on your genetic profile, personal coaching, and ongoing support.
