The author rightly observes that America has built itself a KGB. He’s worried Trump (or Bannon) will “seize” it. Hmm, an executive does not typically have to “seize” agencies of the executive branch.
So what is the author saying?
Perhaps the he favors a permanent unaccountable deep state operating independent of the executive or any other elected official. Or perhaps wants the intelligence apparatus, normally under the control of the executive, to go rogue just now. A soft coup.
Bush birthed this beast, and Obama nurtured and nursed it to full maturity. Now, instead of reflecting on what a mistake it has been to raise an American KGB in the first place, the author hopes it will achieve full autonomy. To…um…block tyranny?
