I saw the video of Minsan Lang Sila Bata. That is an issue about child labor working in piggery farm, butchery、agriculture fields in Philippines. They are kids from underprivileged family, the condition of their family are not allowed them to be educated and forced them to contribute their effort and hardworking in exchange of earning small amount salary.

From the UN initiatives, everyone should make progress to ban and prevent Child labor, which even though has decreased by 38% in the last decade. But, 152 million children are still in child labour. This initiatives urge to accelerate the pace of progress and inspire legislative and practical actions to eliminate child labour for good. June 12 is the world day against child labor.

CHILD LABOUR IS WORK THAT DEPRIVES CHILDREN OF THEIR CHILDHOOD, THEIR POTENTIAL, AND THEIR DIGNITY.

“It harms children mentally, physically, socially, and morally. It interferes with their schooling, preventing them from attending or concentrating. It may involve them being enslaved, separated from their families, and exposed to serious hazards and illnesses.”

As what the video mentioned , kids are deprived of their childhood and potential for earning a living for their family. They are facing the possible injuries and accidents that are likely to happen during the working hours, especially holding some dangerous tools and knifes under the kinds of work condition.

Almost half of child labour happens in Africa (72 million children), followed by Asia and the Pacific (62 million).70% of children in child labour work in agriculture, mainly in subsistence and commercial farming and herding livestock.

According to international labor organization, The worst forms of child labour involves children being enslaved, separated from their families, exposed to serious hazards and illnesses and/or left to fend for themselves on the streets of large cities — often at a very early age.

  • all forms of slavery or practices similar to slavery, such as the sale and trafficking of children, debt bondage and serfdom and forced or compulsory labour, including forced or compulsory recruitment of children for use in armed conflict;
  • the use, procuring or offering of a child for prostitution, for the production of pornography or for pornographic performances;
  • the use, procuring or offering of a child for illicit activities, in particular for the production and trafficking of drugs as defined in the relevant international treaties;
  • work which, by its nature or the circumstances in which it is carried out, is likely to harm the health, safety or morals of children.

After watching the video, It reminds me that how lucky I am.There are millions of children who can’t live a normal lives like most of us. Every child is like the treasure of their parents from the God. When I saw the video, the eyes of those kids in the video are full of disappointment and hopeless.

To my opinion, the government should regulate the policies to eliminate the employment of child labor and the working hours on a daily basis. To curb the tragedy, coordinating with other organizations such as NGO,NPO or social entrepreneurs is an important channel to raise the public concerns as well as utilizing national power to solve the issues.

In addition, private sectors can also exert their efforts through auditing their suppliers and manufacturers that might influence them to change unethical behaviors. Children’s health and education are the most important. The company should prohibit child labor in the supply chain and conduct regular audits to confirm the compliance of suppliers.

Once every sector do the best to influence one another, I believe the society will become better and eventually defer the child labor.
