Notting Hill -Was it based on a True Story?
Before Y2K happened, the rom com, Notting Hill showed up in theaters starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. A movie not just about falling in love but showing how our daily lives limit us for how the future will play out and which path we choose to take determines the outcome. Sounds complicated? Well, love is.
I visited the Notting Hill area in London, England, not too long ago and was in love with the colorful homes, the shops and the people. I see why Julia Roberts’ character sought refuge there in the movie.
Julia Roberts plays Anna Scott, a very famous Hollywood actress and Hugh Grant plays William Thacker, a British mild mannered bookshop owner in London. How can you not fall in love with that? The characters in the film met in a bookshop, which was really romantic, especially all the while Hugh Grants’ character is catching a shoplifter quite discreetly.
The writer of Notting Hill has never outright said the story was based on a true event but it has been suggested that Uma Thurman, Hollywood actress and William Sieghart, a London Publisher had a very similar romance.
