How reliable are you?

“Do what you say and say what you do.” — Jocko Willink

An overly optimistic self is not ideal. One that always thinks that the future is brighter, things will only get better and everything will improve, this is a person whose life will only deliver disappointments. Because Murphy’s Law never fails. It’s a called a law for a reason.

I’ve come to the sad realization that I’m that person. Always expecting that I’ll do better tomorrow. It’s why I’ve always said ‘I’m going to do things…’ and rarely actually did them. It was because I believed my own bullshit. “I can’t today because… But tomorrow I will.” For some reason it made sense. Still does if I’m honest.

But as I’ve come to learn, the 1st step to getting rid of an addiction (Mine being procrastination), is to admit that we are powerless over it. So this is why I don’t finish things, I don’t deliver on my promises and I don’t do the things I said I was going to do.

I’m taking the first step. Because I said I would.
