You Cannot Serve God and Riches

24. “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

Do Not Worry

25. “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?

26. Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

27.Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

Many sermons have been set on the verses 25–27, speaking of how we should not worry and know that God continually provides for those He calls His. The truth is, He does. He’s faithful to you more than you’ll ever be faithful to Him. He’s faithful to you even when you run away from Him and serve mammon (A New Testament expression for material wealth, which some people worship as a god), and not Him. Even when you’ve decided to keep focused on your hustle and forget that there is need to communicate with the Heavenly Father, He’s there. I once heard somewhere that God doesn’t leave us or go away from us — we do. The tale of the prodigal son is a good analogy to this statement.

For a while now, I’ve been focused on being a hustlepreneur (Definition: Hustler: A resourceful person determined to succeed, go-getter. Entrepeneur: A person who organizes & manages a business. HustlePreneur: YOU). The struggle of adulting is real and so I’ve been all out doing them late-night shifts, bingeing on coffee and working 24/7, like literally. It’s good that I’ve been investing into my future. I need to since I plan to be a husband, a dad, a provider and all those things a man’s expected to be. One issue though: I’ve literally been overtaken by the desire to be successful and have forgotten two things — to keep God as my point of focus (Matt. 6 vs. 33) and to live in and for the now. So even though I’ve been doing good for myself by setting a foundation for my future and going through all this pain, I’ve still done no good to myself, much. I’ve literally been sowing seeds for my physical wealth but none for any other type of prosperity: spiritual, emotional, mental and on so many more levels. Relationships with my family, friends and possible lovers have suffered and besides not being rich yet, (I’m still hustling), I’ve been even more poor than I thought.

The devil makes you poor through the technology of the witchcraft of need. People tend to focus too much on their need and thus thrust all their energy into looking to filling that need. Need then becomes an idol because it overshadows God in your life and all one does is aim to provide for their needs. It doesn’t merely overshadow your focus on God, but on everything else besides itself. Need is selfish. It makes you forget everybody else who matters in your life. Now, I understand that as a provider, a businessman, a hustler, and whatever else, you need to let go of certain junk in your life and there’ll be compromises made. That’s what life is made up of — compromises. That’s fine. No argument there. My issue is that we don’t then know how to balance this compromise. Balance. Say it with me. B-A-L-A-N-C-E. You (and I) need balance.

You wanna know what this balance is? Focusing on now as much as you focus on the future. Each and every second you’re living in is the future of the past second so if you’ve been preparing so hard for your future, why aren’t you then living in it? (Haha, that one’s a bit deep — inbox me for a further explanation.)

Stop living in the past. Learn from it and move on. Stop living in a distant future when you’re messing up that future’s past. You don’t want regrets then. Live now. Live right now. Coz you never know if it’s your last moment or not. Stop worrying. God is a God of the NOW and He will provide and care for you sufficiently NOW? God bless.
