Hey Kevin, Thank you for the praise. I look at the ownership and the portability as being deeply related. In the ecosystem we are working to develop, the ownership is a key component to the player controlling their own assets. This alone, I think, will create an entirely new opportunity for portability. Let’s take racing games as an example; it makes sense to me that instead of every racing game creating similar models for a vehicle, a market will arise to create vehicle models with accurate stat. Those models, instead of being licensed by the manufacturer of the game, will be owned by the player and available be imported directly into multiple racing games. In this way, the player owns the vehicle and utilizes it in the universes / worlds that allow it. It seems to me that the future of creating realistic games and environments will come down to specializations instead of expecting everything in a single package. But, I’m getting into the subject matter of my next article, so, I’ll save that for later.
Realistically, we will have to come together as an industry to make this work. Standards for design will be key. We at 8 Circuit Studios are dedicated to being open about our development and working with anyone who is willing to further advance this opportunity. We feel that the time has come for us all to start cooperating with one another to create the world(s) we want to live and work in. This will be a huge undertaking and we’ll have to work together to see it succeed.
Thanks again, Kevin, and I look forward to hearing from you again in the future.
