Tarot is a divinatory and self-reflective tool. It must, by definition, mirror the vast diversity of life, so that we might find and recognize ourselves in the patterns the cards create. It can be difficult to find a tarot deck that completely speaks to you. I’ve discovered that finding one that appeals to you and is queer at heart is all the more difficult. Fortunately, tarot is also vast. There are more tarot decks on the market than ever before, and many authors are including diverse identities.

To help you celebrate Pride Month, I’ve scoured the internet to bring you this small sampling of LGBT+ friendly decks.

1. The Queer Tarot: An Inclusive Deck and Guidebook

by Ashley Molesso, Chess Needham

This deck is highly praised for it’s inclusivity of all types of people, providing representation for not only a variety of gender expressions & sexual orientations, but also incoroprating people with disabilities, different races, & all sorts of body types.

AN INCLUSIVE, AFFIRMING DECK: Queer Tarot is a bright, bold interpretation of the tarot that offers inspiration, affirmation, and LGBTQ+ representation. Created by queer and trans artists Ashley Molesso and Chess Needham of Ash + Chess, this reimagining of the classic figures in the Major and Minor Arcana showcases a wide range of gender expressions and sexual orientations, and incorporates queer history and iconography throughout.

2. Pride Tarot

by U.S. Games Systems Inc.

This georgeous collaborative deck features 45 diverse artists, who each bring their unique perspective to traditional tarot. While I personally love this deck, I’ve seen a few complaints online that it is a little femme heavy in imagry.

3. Star Spinner Tarot: (Inclusive, Diverse, LGBTQ Deck of Tarot Cards, Modern Version of Classic Tarot Mysticism)

by Trungles

With images inspired by fairytales & mythology, this deck reimagines classic tarot imagry in a way that’s both dreamy & inclusive. This one comes with additional Lovers cards for a variety of situations. While this deck does an excellent job of inclusivity, there are some people who find the slim fairy-like figures to be less representitive of body types than some other decks listed.

“Forgoing the promise of cosmic insight, the Star Spinner Tarot trusts that you know your own life best. It is a medium by which you can illuminate the threads that connect seemingly disparate pieces of your day-to-day experiences.”

— STAR SPINNER TAROT GUIDEBOOK BY TRUNGLES

4. The Modern Witch Tarot Deck (Modern Tarot Library)

by Lisa Sterle

I’ve said it before & I’ll say it again, I love this deck. It reimagines the traditional RWS style in a modern and inclusive way, while staying true to the original cards. If you haven’t already, give this one a try.

5. Light Seer’s Tarot: A 78-Card Deck & Guidebook

by Chris-Anne

My last pick isn’t necissarily intended to be an LGBTQ+ inclusive deck, but it’s my go to working deck when I’m reading for a client that I know little to nothing about. I find the imagry to be less assuming and the meanings more inclusive with this deck than many others I’ve come across.
