Wheel Bearings play an important role in any car. The wheel bearings carry out two main functions.

1.To ensure that tires role around the vehicle

2.To support the weight of the vehicle.

Diagnose the Problem

Usually wheel bearings can last up to 150,000 miles if you are lucky, in normal if your car has ran for 75,000 miles, the bearings could start acting up. The hub that carries the wheel bearings is connected to a spindle, which is interlinked with the rest of the car’s suspension. Sounds of hissing, whirring, grinding can be heard if the bearing is about to fail. So stop using the cars and take them to the mechanic as the delay in car bearings repair may cost you more as they take other parts with them.

If you still doubt that the problem is wheel bearing then try reaching under the fender and grabs the top of your wheel. Shake the wheel as much as you can using all your strength. If you find any movement then it is the wheel bearing and if you don’t jack the car up and follow the same procedure, if you feel any movement now then you are going to need new bearings.

Replacement of the Bearings

When the bearings start to wear you will find heavy vibration which is dangerous too. So consult Wheels Wheels near you. If you don’t find any then Google Wheel Wheels Near Me to get to the right mechanic.

A bear replacement means replacement of its complete hub so never ever agree if your mechanic just replaces the bearing, it is a risky situation. Those days or gone when only bearings are replaced, in new model cars you won’t be able to just replace the bearing and whole assembly must be changed. Note that it may be expensive for some models.

The wheels are held by a wheel hub assembly which is in turn bolted to carrier, spindle or axel. A very large nut is used to secure hub assembly to spindle. This nut is relatively large and is tough to remove while replacing the bearing.

The removal of hub assembly and setting it in a press is the most tough task to do while replacing a bearing
