You’re right, Jeff — this is not an issue of Free Speech, it’s an issue of bad editorial judgement and a lack of ethics. Which come into play mighty strongly when a pub is paid by clicks and competes with a ton of other bottom feeders. Unfortunately, the trolls on Twitter live for people defending themselves against this kind of crap masquerading as satire (um, not satire if you’re literally pretending to be the real person to get eyeballs and lolz. See any Monty Python episode to understand this better.) There was, at on time hope for Twitter to be the future of journalism, but, it seems more like Twitter is the future of amplified trolling and journalism is following right along.
