It’s well known that there are two common alleles for the metabolism of alcohol — a “fast” one and a “slow one”. I even remembering a study that showed homozygous “slow” was correlated to a higher incidence of stroke and homozygous “fast” was correlated with a higher incidence of infarction. (Or maybe it was the other way around.) I took notice because I know from personal experience that I’m one of those homozygous people.

The point is that genes… even SNPs… can have a strong effect on how substances are processed in the body and, therefore, be tied to macro conditions. It would be an interesting bit of research if those SNPs/alleles in your case could be found… unlocking a lot of potential information about the pharmacology of anxiety.
