I was divorced in 2008. It was not the worst experience in my life. The marriage had gone down the drain within the first year and I tried my best to fix things in the next few years. When it became clear that it was not going anywhere, I gave up. I felt guilty for not “working harder” but it was not the worst pain in my life.
