Brooklyn Army Terminal Celebrates National Ice Cream Cone Day

In honor of National Ice Cream Cone Day that took place on September 22, the Brooklyn Army Terminal, part of the New York City Economic Development Corporation’s Sunset Park District, brought together two of its tenants — The Konery and Jacques Torres — for a hands-on ice cream sundae cone making event, that was worthy for a little over-indulging.

After a brief history of the Brooklyn Army Terminal, we had the opportunity to tour The Konery facility and help Founder Kristine Tonkonow bake a batch of artisanal waffle cones, and sample cone flavors such as red velvet, birthday cake, toasted coconut, and salted blue corn.

We them made our way over to visit the Jacques Torres factory to meet Mr. Chocolate himself, Chef Jacques Torres, and we walked through the process of making gourmet ice cream. Directly out of the machine, the ice cream was enjoyed in the freshly-baked Konery cones and topped with Jacques Torres toppings for a one-of-a-kind sundae only available at the Brooklyn Army Terminal.
