Divine Rhythms.
John Philip Newell writes, “The image of God is the essence of our being. It is the core of the human soul. We are sacred not because we have been baptized or because we belong to one faith tradition over another. We are sacred because we have been born.”*
We are sacred because we have been born.
What a struggle this is to comprehend, and further more, to accept. Life is a great dance, and we so often change our style of that dance based on the music chosen for us. Sometimes jazz, or a waltz, or a masquerade. Every different style requiring a different set of foot work and the vitality of listening for the rhythms. No one dance better than the other, these movements are equally as beautiful, equally as challenging, and equally as important.

Over the past couple of years of my life i’ve been trying to understand what dance I’m in and what dance is next. I found I have been having difficulty with this because I’ve been looking for the style of dance, instead of listening for the rhythm. I’ve been trying to dance hip-hop to Mozart, trying to force my movements into a choreography already laid out for me. A beautiful and strong one. Recently I discovered it. The dance my life is to take on, and for me it is a dance in sync with God’s rhythms. A commitment to this rhythm means a change of course, a directional shift from what I thought might be my life’s work, to one that encompasses the talents and gifts I’ve been given for a purpose I only needed to fully accept.
My prayer for you this new year is that you will listen more keenly to the rhythms that are being played for you. That you will find yourself drifting flawlessly into that dance that is being played out for you, one in sync with Gods rhythms.
May you remember that your dance, your life, is sacred because you have been born.
Courage, Compassion, Grace, and fortitude.
