Does the local McDonald’s illicit emotional response vs. the one in another city? MLS clubs are franchises, so maybe in 50 years they will start to have their own flavor. The MLS franchises are managed from a central location with an attitude of what is good for MLS is good for the individual franchise, so there is no character to a franchise. The franchises were bought and constructed from nothing, they are not local teams that fight and build for their clubs to get to the top, so their is only manufactured rivalry (except Sounders and Portland, but that comes from years of playing in the lower leagues). Their is no history of X club winning and keeping Y club out of the next league, there is no X club bought Y player and stole him from us, etc…
